power steering pump

It is time to replace the power steering pump, two of the lines come off with a line wrench but the third has that funny clip on it, how do I remove it and what do I do when I put it back on, hose clamps? And has anyone put a filter on the power steering hoses? if so what type of filter was used and which hose did you run it on?

Funny clip? You mean hose clamp?

You open it with pliers, or a constant tension hose clamp tool, and, while holding it open, slide it up the hose until it clears the hose barb (nipple), then release it. You are now free to slide the hose from the connection.

Nope, looks like a solid ring that is crimped, it is on the PS pump nearest to the battery

You would run the filter on the RETURN line (hose clamp line). No real pressure, just flow.

The Suburban Club Member

There is a return line to put a filter like Magnefine or AutoZone sells a small version also.
The line that is not permanently crimp coming out from the bottom of the Brake Booster to the P/S fluid reservoir.

The crimp lines are all high pressure lines.

I had one of the crimped clamps on my hydroboost when I replaced it. I broke mine off and replaced it with a small hose clamp, no problems.

I have to do my PS pump soon also. Will be doing the same thing on that end.
