need help truck wont start and black smoke from tail pipe
I just bought a 1995 GMC k2500 with the 6.5 L in it and when I try to start it tries to start but no go and black smoke comes from the tail pipe don't no what to do to try and solve or fix thanks for the help

So, this truck, did you buy it running or not running?
Do you know if your glow plugs are working? How long does your glow plug/wait to start light stay on during cycling?
A trick I head of w/ Ford IDI diesels, not sure if it would with the 6.5L, is to plug the block heater in over night or during the day while at work (all day). On my Ford IDI, it can warm the engine enough that it can start even if the glow plugs or controller are not working. If your 6.5 starts after being plugged in warming, it would mean something in your GP system is not right.
Make sure your batteries are 100%. Also, if you jump your 6.5L, use the vehicle to CHARGE your batteries. Don't try starting w/ the jumping vehicle hooked....more then 12V to the glow plugs will damage them. Yes, that means a jumper vehicle w/ 13.9-14.1V coming from the alternator will hurt them. Some 6.5's had stickers in the engine compartment saying not to jump.

If you are not sure what to do, in the STICKY top of this forum section, there is something called DIAGNOSTIC CHECKLIST.
If you DO and report us your finding, that would be a good first step.
Pay particular attention to the Lift Pump test by clicking the link.
