6.5 in a short school bus
hey y'all been quite some time since i've posted! Well i sold my truck to come to school and now i have a buddy who bought a short school bus that he gutted and is going to use it to hauls dirt bikes to the racing track. what, if any, differences are there between that engine and the one in a truck. the bus is a 95 and he said it's non turbo'd, and has 4o some thousand miles. thanks again

Most of the 6.5L used in van/bus and stripped chassis are non turbo. I've seen them go from cheap to expensive ($500-2500). If I recall, the compression ratio is different between the non and turbo, but there are people who have purchased ex military 6.5L (non turbo) and have put turbo's on them. I'm guessing, that the van non turbo 6.5 would be similar.
I was thinking going this route to get a replacment motor for a buddy's van. But the prices kept going up on the online auctions I saw. Well, if it is a 95, it prob. has PMD and the oil cooler lines. Ya better take a look to see if the lines are good and odds are, if the bus was sold from a school, it hasn't had the PMD relocated (be surprised if it was).

My 1995 Chevy G30 van 6.5 + 4L80E was N/A & DB2 (old body style).
If it's Chevy Express cab/body style then it's probably 6.5T w/ DS4. I found out the hard way that the 6.5 center mount turbo for vans/buses/HMMWVs doesn't fit well in the old body style doghouse.
