fuel pump run-on?
I noticed that the electric fuel pump continues ticking for about 5 seconds after shutting off the engine. Is this normal?

Yup normal it will run until the oil pressure drops off. You will notice it more when it's cold out & the oil is more viscous takes longer for the pressure to register zero

Are you sure? On a 97? Mine has never on my 99, but is 97 the year that they are controlled by a relay, and not run through the oil pressure switch. Mine comes on when the key is on and glow plugs warming up. And as soon as I turn off my truck, it stops. I had a bad relay once and intermittently it would stay running after the key was off. Long story, but it was a new relay from Napa.

99 must be different. I have owned my truck for 8 years and the fuel pump has never continued to run when the truck was turned off(except with the bad relay). Runs when the key is on, but when the key is turned off so is the power to it.

So you got me thinking. So I went out to check my truck. KOEO, lift pump runs while wait to start light is on. KOER lift pump running, pull the fuel pump relay and lift pump quits, plug in relay with engine still running, lift pump runs. So that leads me to believe the newer trucks(at least 1999) do not use the OPS, except to signal relay that there is oil pressure. If it ran through the switch it would have continued to run with the relay taken out. And if it so happened I had a bad oil pressure switch and didn't know it, I should have lift pump for the KOEO prime, but quit once started. Correct?
