Hx35-hx40??
Ive done some reading on these turbos and im still not sure which one will be better for me. I dont tow a whole lot and even then its not heavy. But defo need to get a better turbo on. Would just a hx35 be suffice for me? I do some mudding and 4X4ing but nothing crazy. I found one on ebay, heres the link http://www.ebay.ca/itm/HX35W-SUPER-D...item20c4af2c79
Let me know what you guys think?

size wise the 40 is bigger than the 35. being different, the 35 is better for towing

![]() Wouldn't the 40 with its larger exhaust housing be more of a towing turbo? The telephone turbo is said to be a good choice for towing because of that reason. The smaller housing means it will spool faster but fall out of it efficiency range sooner. Thats the way I understood it but I'v been wrong before.

Are these turbos bolt on or do they need a lot of modifications.

The T3 HX35&40II bolt on But you have to make a downpipe from the turbo to your existing Exhaust, The inlet is 4" while the GM turbo is 3" I swapped locations my pass. battery and airbox that made the turbo install much easier

Thanks for the quick response. Will these turbos bolt on to my mechanical 92. Also I heard some horror stories about Chinese casted turbos. Where's the best place to buy them?

fleabay for the HX40II, there are quite a few running them on 6.5s so far so good, I am still running one it performs really good great improvment over the GM turbos IMHO, as far as bolting up yes they will

There has been one casting issue, and one shaft play issue I believe. Turbos replaced by seller of course, but its a hassle.
I would recommend the HX40WII over the HX35 any day specs wise, but its not genuine Holset. The HX35 has a very low trim compressor and relatively small turbine housing. Although the HX35 is still larger than the GMx. But because of the low trim compressors, I don't like the idea of it being paired with an intercooler, and having to support that additional mass flow, not when there are better options. The HX40s are more in tune with the engine needs, compared to the 35 needing to be gated more from overspeeding. Now you can build up a genuine holset HX40 or HX35/40 hybrid. The 14cm^2 HX40WII is just convenient and low cost. The 40s still need to be gated though, because they spool so well.

I have the telephone turbo and love it but racedaymechanic and others seem very happy with the HX40II as well. Racedaymechanic also has a good Rep. on both sites for supporting everyone.
