New Headlight advice needed
My truck has some sort of aftermarket headlights that were past thier prime years ago. They are so bad they border on dangerous.
So I obviously need to replace them and there seems to be a plethora of options. 95% of my driving right now is in the dark to and from work. I live and work out in the sticks on gravel roads. Wildlife is the hazard not traffic, in fact it is rare to see more than one vehicle on my 100 km round trip I am looking for bright and wide high beams I all so plan on setting up some off hwy lights and fog lights on the bumper in the near future. I want to set the aux lights on a switch and then to the high beam switch. That way I can turn them off if I go to town so as not to accidentally burn out some poor souls retinas. Any advice on uber bright aux lights would be very appreciated as well and street legal is not a concern. For experimental purposes only mind you |

for replacing the highs, use a 9011 bulb (from phillips) instead of the 9005. Takes just a hair of trimming one tab, but for the same wattage, it produced better 1.5 times the light output of a 9005 bulb. Can do the same with 9012 instead of 9006 low beams as well.
I had 9011's and 9012's on my last vehicle, and a 4 light highbeam mod (all 4 lights on). It erased the night. |

Probably the best source is Ebay on the headlight housing.
They are chinese made probably around $100-$200 otherwise you will pay more than $500. The HIR is good 9011 and 9012. I put HID in the low beam. No sense to put HID on high beam. It is cheap now also, I used to pay more than $100 but it has lifetime warranty.

hilly, while i was looking for new headlights a while ago, on ebay there was some good ones as far as helping to be brighter, chrome inside to reflect light with 100% clear lense that wont scatter light, like the stupid gm stockers....,
so that being said.... that would be a upgrade, then do the ALL on mod, when your highbeams come on, your low beams stay on, easy to do, then if you want brighter... although its "illegal" however my trucks headlights are not bright.... i put the 100W offroad versions in, to help brighten it up, of course i never chose headlights for brightness, i chose em for looks

My originals were dim also. I replaced them with brand new repros and standard bulbs, and aimed properly. It's amazing how good the originals are when they are new. Now I have plenty of light if I drive a REASONABLE speed at night. Too bright a headlight causes other drivers to think your highs are on - around here they will flash theirs once and them blind you when you don't "dim".
