Cold Lower Rad Hose??
Hi All,
I replaced my block heater today on my 94 6.5, wasn't able to drain the rad so I did it the hard way, I drained the coolant from the block heater hole. I lost about 16L of coolant, I refilled it at the rad because it was empty, started up the truck up, it took for ever to get the top hose warm, but the reservoir never went down or looked to be circulating. The Temp was 85 to 90 degrees celsius so no over heating but the lower rad hose was cold as was the hose from the rad to the reservoir. Is this normal, the water pump was changed last spring to my knowledge

Takes quite a while for the lower rad to get hot from an idling engine and a stat that is only opening occasionally.

Make sure all the air is bled from the cooling system and drive it keeping an eye on the temp gauge,if it's working properly it will let you know of a problem.
Getting all the air out is the most important thing, the gauge sending units are meant to be enveloped in coolant-they won't work if there is an air pocket around them so they can't warn you of a problem.

Open the bleed valve by the t-stat until coolant flows with the engine running, also leave the rad cap off until the stat opens and the upper hose gets hot and you can feel flow in the hose is how I do it.
