Built 6.5 Diesel vs P400

Well I know this will be a sensitive subject trying to push 400 hp out of a 6.5 diesel. But aside from the gm blocks the newer ones seem to be a rugged foundation. Im not looking to use all 400 hp all the time. My intentions would be to have it if I want it and to maybe wow a duramax or cummins guy sled pulling. I know it won't keep up with a moded up one. But my question is built a high hp motor from a gep or swap in a p400 and tune it large hx 40 turbo and injectables to reach that power. I'm starting this build within the next three weeks so I'm trying to grasp some input. Thanks

Chris

Well I personally don't see a standard 6.5 block giving out that kinda power. If I had the money I would get a p400 in a heartbeat.

It would be well worth it to grab a newer, stronger block, 400hp or not.
Cost is the limiting factor, if it is a factor.

I don't know if I would go with a 40 for induction duties, but if you're gonna be using drugs, you should be ok.

If you want to build a high HP/ torque 6.5 forget about a turbo and supercharge it. I dont think you can get to 400 hp but 340hp 550 or so torque is possible without destroying the engine. If you have a spare $12,000 lying around go for it. A P400 would be a great base to build from.
But i think you could also build a 599 block the be very a respectable engine with the right parts. For less money.
Problem with turbos and high power is turbos generate very high EGT. Manily because of the high exhaust back pressure needed to make boost. 6.5s cant take the high EGT. Causes all kinds of problems
Superchargers dont have that heat problem. All the heat goes right out the exhaust without being restricted by the turbo. You can dump all that heat into a set of headers with true dual exhaust, and right out the back of the truck. Less heat will let you make more power. Supercharger, reworked mechanical IP, Injectors, 18 to 1 compression, block girdle, head intake porting, Cam, Would be a good start to make a Dmax killer. IF money is no object.
Cheaper to drop in a D max tho.

Gunner, I think you make some very valid points, supercharging would also give it some wow factor due to the fact that there are very few 6.5s running a supercharger system. I think he could keep his electronic IP though, would require some changes to the programming so that everything goes along with the lower and more linear boosting from the sc, but i do think it is possible. I would personally still use a p400 to build off of though just because it has a forged crank and completely new bedplate girdle setup.

I don't think 300hp would be hard out of a gep.

I think you could even get to 400hp with one with the right mods.

I would much rather see 6/650ft lbs out of one regardless of what the HP numbers are.

Whipple also makes SCs for 6.5 diesel.
Reson I said mechanical pump is they already make reworked Db2 pumps that will work with SC 6.5. They are used on supercharged marine 6.5 engines. IIRC you can get them thru Pensiular.
It would be cheaper than getting a DS$ reworked and a program to run one. Plus you wont have the old PMD issues.
