PMD testing
Is there a way to properly test the PMD. I would rather not have to spend the 300 and find out money is ok

If you do a search , there are a few things you can check with a multimeter, but nothing is a definate when it cmes to a PMD . Its a block full of resistors that is mistreated on adaily bsisis and expected to work. Its kinds funny that resistance can change with temp changes. And they put it in a hot spot then try to cool it.. ok maybe not so funny.
But there is no definitive test other than getting a known working PMD and hooking it up in place of yours.

I am sure you can find one on ebay that is known working but used just for testing purposes or an emergency. Thats what I have and I keep it with me in the glove box just in case.

Just to add , a PMD can bench test good, and stilll not work correctly when in a truck and submitted to real life temp change and vibration abuse.
Pennsicola claims to bench test there used PMDs before they sell them , they might , but they had to ship me 3 before I got one that worked.

I don't think anybody can guarantee a known working one unless it is tested in a real truck. As CrazyRay said.

You cannot bench test a PMD and tell if it works properly.. they must be ran on a truck. I have seen several that ran fine on the bench but failed miserably on the truck.. Failure to start, run away, hot shut down were most common failures after the bench test.
Anybody that tells you different is full of BS..

I have a $35 eBay special on my truck as my primary PMD. Been running great for 2+ years now.

Dang, lucky. I was wondering about "bench testing" and this thread came up. They keep saying, testing, testing, tested good.... I'm starting to think even the factory has no real way to test new ones, for quality control. There is a seller there on eBay right now (out of Canada) that says they bench test their used PMD/FSD. Plus, the pic they show is a black Stanadyne. I think I'll message them and ask if they are all black Stanadyne PMD's. There words: Quote:
I think I'd trust a used Stanadyne vs the new, unwarrantied D-Tech I have on the way.....
