I took my fuel tank out of my 1999 Suburban today. It was loaded with what looked like silver corn-flakes. My filter housing was loaded with smaller silver particals. Under the fuel shutoff solenoid in my IP was even finer silver particals. So, the reason my IP failed is due to the lining coming off of the tank. Bummer.
What causes the galvinizing to flake off?
Is this something GM should back up?
Should I buy a Spectra or Dorman tank? Spectra tank says it is "lined". Dorman has no mention of lining (Which I want to avoid).
Will a Spectra fuel sender fit on a Dorman tank?
Should I replace all the steel fuel lines with rubber?
Man, what a way to spend my vacation..... 100 degrees on hot pavement replacing everything in the fuel delivery system!!
