Is this a GEP P-400 or just an optimizer?

HI folks,

how can I recognize an AM Gerneral/GEP P400 Engine?
Found that one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-U...Q5fAccessories

think it is one but I'm not sure. Has the diamond casting and so on but I'm not sure?

Thanks again and greetings

Flo

The diamond in the casting means it was cast by navistar. Not a p400 for shure.Probobly not a optimiser either. The p400 and optimiser are both cast by gep[general engine products] a division of american general, the co. that builds humvees.

It's a probably a remanufactured 506. Not a optimizer or P400.

I see the seller is 6-5 liter Not a P400 block, however, the Ebay listing seems to say that these are a limited number that they got from AMG, which is possible. I would like to see a picture of the date code on the back of the bellhousing to verify build date, or print of a copy of the Ebay listing, and get them to send you an E-mail confirming the engine is what they say it is.

6-5 liter normally sells blocks/engines that are cast in China, and machined in Canada.

They're built by GEP, but the Optimiser was cast by Navistar, hence the diamond in the valley. This used to be a way to tell a genuine GEP block from a Chinese knock-off. I seem to remember reading somewhere, however, that there was at least one Chinese block out there that has started replicating the diamond too. I'm not sure about who casts the P400 though.

I talked to 6.5liter today and was told that their blocks are cast at the same plant in Brazil as the Optimizer. Has anyone actually bought one of their engines? I need to get an engine ordered this week and have been agonizing over which one to get and the decision ain't easy! I was thinking of getting the 6.5liter drop in for just under $7000 because I also need to replace my turbo (due to excessive play). I have no idea as to the age of my IP.

Have you considered the option of a 6.2 from dieseldepot ?
Talk to them about their improvement in cooling heads
Bill Heath uses a 6.2 from them in his Bonneville racer.

I have myself bought engine at dieseldepot. Jamie is a bit long in answering e-mails but engines are fine.

According to ebay, 836 people have, from there, with 100% positive feedback, what more do you think you want?

Lol - no it does not. Look at the transactions. He has sold a lot of glowplugs, CDR valves, and other parts, but I searched back about 8 pages and saw no engines that were sold.

I understand that the 6.2 didn't have the problem with the blocks cracking. Is that right? But the one thing that bothers me is that Diesel Depot mentions "sleeving" and I am really trying to get the best bang for my buck. I am cursed with the ability to do the swap by myself instead of taking it to a shop, but I don't want to do this any more often than I have to!
