1993 6.5 Oil Change

Let me start off by saying that since I bought my truck about a month or so ago, I've been glued to this site at some point during everyday. Everyone on here is full of knowledge and I really appreciate any help I get. Now, when I bought the truck I knew I should start with an oil change, and it seemed perfect because the 4X4 driveshaft was removed already, so it seemed all to easy. it turned out to be quite different with the filter not moving at all, and eventually it took a crow bar and hammer to budge it so I could muscle it off. I know nearly everyone on here has more experiences then I do, so before I messed something up I wanted to run it by a few of you to see if anyone has knowledge of an easier way to do things since the driveshaft has now been put back in and Im coming close to oil change time so I know itll need to be done sooner rather then later. Thanks guys for any inputs and advice. Matt

well that normally means that the PO hasent done an oil change in awhile if you do reg oil changes at the right time it should come off by hand if you didnt torqe it on with a wrench

Use regular oil filter wrench to open it. Tightened it by hand after. There is no other way to make it easier unfortunately.

A remote oil filter set-up would make it much easier. Then the filter would be where you could actually get at it and not shower yourself and the front diff. with oil. I'm hoping santa will bring me at least one.

Remember to put a light film of oil to the gasket on the oil filter when you change oil. That will help it from seizing when you want to change it.

i looked at trans dapt remote oil filter kit after having to drive a screw driver through the oil filter to get it off the first time i changed the oil. the origonal owner had tightened the filter down to the point that the steel of the filter housing was up againt the aluminum 90 degree filter adapter and was then aloud to sit for a year before i bought the truck. anyways they all said not to use the kits on diesel engines. so i contacted trans dapt, and they said that the vibration of a diesel engine couses the forged aluminum adapters to fail. they were not all that willing to help me out with anything more so i stoped looking. that was just my experience though.
