ECM/Prom Chip

HELP SAVE A "LAND YACHT" FROM DESTRUCTION.
I purchased my "Land Yacht" back in early Feb and it has been in the shop ever since. I am being told that the codes being flashed by the ECM is for a defective EGR. The problem is the engine does not have an EGR. The shop is telling me that someone put the wrong "Prom Chip" in the ECM which is creating the problem. The problem with that is Chevy doesn't carry that particular prom chip anymore. ECM - 16183977; Prom Chip - begins with the letters BKWJ

See signature for vehicle specifics.

The truck is blowing black smoke under a load and has no power.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advise, Please Help ! !

Check your turbo actuator shaft with truck running. You shouldn't be able to move it. It sounds like a no boost problem. Leo

I'll check the actuator shaft. The truck is currently at the third diesel shop.

Any Idea as to why I'm getting an EGR error code when the engine doesn't have an EGR ?

You need to get the exact code. You can do that with a paper clip. Then post it here or someplace where somebody knows something.

Which obviously isn't your Diesel Shops, if you're on the third one and it still isn't fixed... somebody please help this guy~

Diagnostic codes OBD I Look here, use a paper clip between terminal A&B, then turn key to on, Do No Start the vehicle. Count the flashes, one flash, pause, two flashes is a code 12 which is all is normal. each code will repeat itself three times.

You could allways try and find a chip at a junkyard or order a new chip from heath or engh. Both are site venders. The alleged diesel shops may not have a compatible scan tool for your truck. Snap-on mt2500 will not work. A tech1 or tech 2 or gmtdscantech software will. If you post your location a member in your area may be able to help you out.

You must have the broadcast code of the EPROM wrong.
Get the truck out of the shop, they are clueless, most of them are.
Is it BKWB? Which is an L56 chip, which would have EGR programming.
BKWA is also an L56 chip
BKWL is an L65 chip but but for C3500s

I have a chip that I could send to you if you PM me.

Ok the results are in....After having the truck at 3 diesel shops ( and not fixed) and an estimated repair bill of over $3,000.00.... I took all of your advice. I brought the truck home and followed the advise that you all gave me.

It turned out to be the vaccum waste gate controller was not working properly.
(Black smoke, no Power) I found out what the problem was by wiring the waste gate arm shut and driving the truck around the block. BAM ! ! Everything works great now. ( My Boost guage was the sign that things were wrong)

I installed the Heath Turbo-Master Mechanical controller this weekend and no more worries. Repairs = just over $100.00 Dollars

I want to THANK you guys for offering your support and advise ! !

Can you pull the codes that are there and tell what they are? Did you get another chip? Can you pop off the glove box and see what numbers the PCM has on top of it, the service number and on top right should be 4 letter code. You can also see what is actually in it by pulling the PCM out and opening up the door on the bottom of it where the chip is located. Then you can read actual chip code.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. We love success stories. I think I'd go after the 3 clowns that ripped you off. $3000 is alot of money for no results.
