6.2 diesel transmission

I have a 1990 Chevy 30 Van school bus, 12 passenger, with a 3 speed auto 6.2 siesel, & I want a 3 speed auto with overdrive. What transmission will work?

The 3 speed in it now will make the motor almost run wide open at 55.

Thanks

Maybe just me, but, you may want to post this in the 6.2 section. You would get a better response.

Your rear gears may explain why you are having such high RPM's at 55 MPH.

Here is a link to a good site to figure out your RPO codes, which will our could tell you your rear gears.

You should have the TH700R4.

Ok what shape is the pan? How many bolts hold on the tail housing? 400s have a vac mod out the pass side of the trans. Also would have a 4 bolt cover just in front of the tail housing on the pass side. And behind the shift linkage there should be a 1 spade connector pointing strait left.

if its a 3 speed its likely a TH400, but could be a TH350. A 700r4 would be your best bet for a 4 speed (3spd + overdrive) but it isnt the strongest thing in the world. Probably OK for a school bus and for anything wit a 6.2 tho. Next option is a 4L80E but you are starting to talk BIG money there.

the 700 was used from 82 till 92-93 depending the car. they have 16 pan bolts Have a square pan. A little longer than wide but all corners werw square. Also had a 4 pin plug on the drives side going strait down. 4 bolt tail housing.
the 350 pan has the right corner pushed in . also has a 4 bolt tail housing. May or may not have a plug sticking strait out the drivers side. But it would be a plug not just a spade. Also has a vac mod next to the tail housing on the pass side,
The 400 pas front and both sides a square. While the back Is any thing but square. The tail housing has 6 bolts.
