12mm main studs from 6.2 in 2003 6.5?

I think I started this thread once before, but I can't find it. Ths search won't allow me to use "6.2" or "6.5" in a query. I'll keep looking, but I need to call the shop this morning if I don't want to re-use the main bolts.

The machine shop has taken my cue (I initially let them know I'm not in a hurry) and my engine is still not done. I'm still very concerned with the main bolts being TTY. My shop manual says nothing about replacing the head bolts or the mains. I bought new head bolts based on many threads here.

There are no 6.5-specific ARP stud kits.

I have a 2003 (April or May) AMG block.

Will the 12mm studs from a 6.2 stud kit fit my engine? I ask because they apparently went from SAE to metric tranny bolts some time around 1998 or so. Is there any indication they changed the mains from the 6.2 to the AMG 6.5? I know the 10mm bolts won't come in the 6.2 kit, but they're not TTY for sure, so in a worse case scenario, I could use them. ...or get a DSG girdle.

Maybe not?

Actually, I got confused between head studs and mains. I can't seem to find a mains stud kit information anywhere.

I'm gonna call GEP today and see if they'll verify whether or not I can re-use my bolts. There seem to be no replacements of any kind anywhere.

Sorry for the bother.

Diesel Services Group, in Canada, has a stud and girdle kit. Only one that I found using Google. I have no knowledge of DSG however.

I was thinking of that, but it just has the outers for mains 2-4. I did find a part number that seems to be good for the inners and one for the 12mm outers on mains 1 and 5, but no kits, so $$$$.

will wait and see if GEP will tell me anything.

I can't remember who but someone on here made their own because they couldn't find one that did the outers, I think the reason is that the oil pan no longer fits and needs to be cut and enlarged. Maybe someone else remembers the post.

The search in this site sucks, the best way to find stuff is to use Advanced Search in google and have it only search www.dieselplace.com it works pretty well.

The main bolts are reusable. No need to replace them.

Is this what you were looking for?

Mitch, PM Ratman. He used ARP studs for his maincaps. He has all the information you are looking for.

I tried to call GEP today, but couldn't get past the phone mail system. It will only let you dial an extension or search by name. I left a message, but they didn't call back; don't expect they will.

The friggin' things gotta be reusable. Nobody sells replacements.

The weather's still holding out here, so maybe I have hope to get the thing running before it gets too cold to work on it if I don't delay the shop any more. Folks keep telling me they're reusable, and replacements are scarce as hen's teeth, so I guess I'll reuse them.

Ya, Ratman's post is where I found the part numbers for the individual studs. ...pretty spendy now that my budget has been depleted.
