Alternator Bracket

I have a '95 6.5 the alternator is on the drivers side. It has a really short little bracket that bolts to the threaded alt. hole and the back of the belt tensioner. Mine cracked and ultimately allowed the alt. to break off the truck in the middle of the PA turnpike towing a 10,000lb 2 car trailer, but that is another story. Anyways, I tried welding the bracket back together and that most likely just made it more brittle, and it has cracked again. The alt. hasn't broken off yet, and I am trying to prevent it. I know I don't post here that often but I am looking for another one of these brackets, I don't really have the time or means to fab a new one right now. Does anyone have one of these laying around on a parts motor? I am willing to give a few bucks for it as well as paying for shipping?

Thanks for the help!!!

I had to replace mine since it did not have any earlier in the year.

You can order from dealer, cheap. They may not have it in stock but they can order it.

GM Part no.: 15589749

Do you still have the middle bracket? If not, that is why it breaks the top bracket. It looks like a triangle, 2 bolt from the manifold and 1 bolt to the far hole on the back of alternator and another bolt using the same bolt as the lower bracket. Part no: 15589750

I got both of them for less than $20. They give me a discount since I told them I found them on the net, local dealer here in TX.

I was gonna say, my rig doesn't even have that small bracket, just the triangular one that goes from the crossover and intake over to the alternator and then down to the power steering bracket. Never had a problem with that one.

Would one of you guys mind taking a picture of the triangular bracket? That would explain my problem. I will stop by the Chevy Dealer and order both of them today. Thanks a lot, guys I appreciate it.

Now, the stock picture from ACDelco website does not do any justice.
It is much bigger than the picture.

Essentially, it is installed as jbaxsman mentioned.

After you get the part, try to make sense of it.

If not, post it here, I can put photo.

It is raining hard here today and the truck is outside. So I won't be able to get good pictures.

I'll run out and take a picture. I have my alternator off right now, so I'll take a series of photos that show exactly how it is supposed to be placed.

OK, here are the pics of the bracket in it's intended location. Note, the T-stat crossover is missing in these pics, but you should see where it goes.

Also, be gentle. It is a mess under the hood of my rig...

OK, that picture is perfect. Thanks so much guys I really appreciate it. I definately don't have that middle bracket, which would explain the top bracket breaking. I ordered them both today, but they are going to be discontinued...really really soon, so they had to force the order through and they are coming from Philly and Memphis, he said I won't see them till Monday at the earliest. Which is a bummer because I have no choice but to drive it about 50 miles a day, and thats all I need is for the alt. to break off again.

I know what you mean about being forced to drive under less than ideal conditions.

I drove a few days without the middle bracket. But I did not do it constantly.

Ask them whenever one comes to let you know right away. Whatever you can put in there first should help.
