i would personally use your 4l80 e with a stand alone controller then get a computer from a duramax with a standard transmission. I think it would make things alot easier........

4l80 would work at stock HP levels but if you were gunna put a duramax in one of the best looking body styles ever wouldnt you want that duramax to have gobs of power? 4l80 could never handle serious duramax power. there would be alot involved. hopefully you do the Duramax allison conversion as there arent a whole lot out there. but there is alot of talk about it. theres a few threads about it on here. noone that i know of has done it yet on this website into a 88-98. one guy has a complete duramax that was in a fire but i dont know what became of that he intended to swap it into a suburban. theres a manual floating around on the web somewhere good luck.

I would think the biggest challenge is getting the gauges to work.

I wouldn't worry about the trany tunnel, raising the tunnel area would be simple compared to the rest.

heres a link to a thread I started on the same subject.
I decided not to do the swap because of the cost and fixed my 6.5 instead. Plus I havent found a suitable donor vehicle yet.
You can go with manual tranny and not worry about the body lift, I think. I think I would steer clear of the 4l80e tranny. You will need to find someone to program the ECM to ignore some of the other control modules you wont need on your truck.. If you have a 95 or later model truck, you can exhange the entire dash and body control modules with minor modifications. You can exchange the entire dash and body control modules in older trucks, but it requires major farbrication. There is a manual available to aid in the conversion.
