'94 6.5TD Injection Pump Timing?

I just replaced the IP in my 1994 6.5. I just got a SnapOn MT2500 scanner. Can anyone give me the step-by-step on how to set the timing and TDC offset. I've read a lot of posts about the topic and it looks like I might not be able to do it on a 94 without the Tech2? Can anyone confirm this? Is there a manual out there that explains it? I have the GM manual, but it doesn't say how it works, just which buttons to push on the Tech2. Thanks,

PM Turbine Doc for info on the MT2500 - you may be SOL without a TechX, tho.

If the ESO solenoid is exactly vertical, the thing should start and run with no problem till you can get it scanned and setup.

Tried it b efore, SNAP-ON MT2500 wouldn't do my 95. The 94-95 models require the GM TECHX scanner to set the timing. Or if you have a laptop and a connection cable, you may be able to download swedesburg software and do it that way.

That's too bad. I was planning on borrowing a relative's MT2500 to set timing on my truck.

Got a source for the laptop connection cable?

You cannot set the timing on an OBD1 with an MT-2500, but you CAN read it. GMCTD Is correct. You have to have a TechX tool.

The timing reads 5degs and TDC offset -0.4. If I want the timing to be 3.5 degs can I just move the IP and read it again until I get 3.5? Or does this only work if you use the Timeset on the Tech2? I tried the local dealer, but they said they can only work on Dmax.

Those readings were stored in memory from the original IP installation.

You can move the pump, but PCM won't recognize the change unless commanded by the TechX - it will recognize an error and log a DTC.

Engine should run ok with those settings until you can get a TechX on it, within a month or so
