I could very well be wrong, but I think it was the first two years they made the 4L80E. That would be 1990-1991, I think. Not sure... It's somewhere near there, though...

NA hummers also used the stand-alone controller from 94-? I'm not sure what year they stopped making nas - 99 I think.

You can buy one new for around $300 US.

The service manuals call the stand-alone computer a 'Transmission Control Module' (TCM). The systems that use engine controls are shown as 'Engine Control Module' (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The '93 6.5T trucks with non-electronic fuel systems used the TCM but did monitor throttle position, and coolant temp from the engine. They are considered PCM because they didn't control the engine/fuel distribution. The P-Vans 6.5NA also used the TCM.

These systems are stand-alone only in light of the fact that they don't control the engine outputs. The wiring harness is integrated into the vehicle wiring and thus uses wires for other vehicle functions. A true stand-alone system would have and isolated harness.

One would need to have the whole harness from the TCM truck, cut, modify, and fit it to your chassis/application. You'd have lots of left-over wiring!
