was that a chinese turbo or, being a cat, a genuine schwitzer? never seen that before, makes me wonder if anyone has actually pulled off the compressor wheel on one of the CKO turbos... is this your truck legendman? you said it was changed, who changed it, and who supplied the replacement unit? did you pull the exhaust housing off to see if the turbine wheel comes off? almost looks like plastic, pretty poor casting, seems to be a lot of porosity in it... like when aluminum is tossed in the fire, and doesnt quite melt......

KBC

Usually it is the compressor wheel that is removed to be able to slide the shaft out of the housing. Turbine wheels, from what we have seen, come pre-balanced on the shaft. Would like a couple more pics; front view of complete housing, turbo identification markings, exhaust side housing, turbine wheel.....almost seems like a joke.

It's a knock off, I found it on another site.
Ended up costing more than getting a OE replacement with having to buy a new intercooler and the truck being down for 2 days waiting for parts.

I went through this same thing a few weeks ago on a CAT C15. Intake side blew apart. just like that.. I'll have to see if we still have the blown one to check it out closer. I didn't get much chance when I swapped out the turbos as it was a late night rush job.

What a POS! So it's just a one piece cast assembly threaded onto the main shaft, how the hell did they balance it or did they even bother...

Good thing ya had an inter cooler or it woulda been lights out for the motor.

I'll briefly get on the "Buy Genuine Parts" milk stool....k, I'm off it...
