timing light

I visited 3 parts stores today for a digital timing light that can be offset to 99.5degrees. Innova has one that goes to 90, OTC 3367 has one that goes to 99 - just not 99.5

Can anyone recommend the model# of a timing light that can be offset for the 6.2/6.5 timing?

How important is this number? Is it just to 'move the line' around so it's easier to see?

Thanks

Sure the part # would be handy.

Even NAPA doesn't have a timing light with an offset that goes past 90.

Is offset the same as Dwell?

Timing my 6.5 MFI TD for the first time, the idle rattle is a lot more than my 6.2, so I know the timing is off. Also the IP didn't come from this engine so the lineup marks are suspect.

I bought an Innova 5568 timing light - top of the line at any parts store around town.
Got my Fox 160 lumi adapter installed in #2
The advance on the timing light only goes to 90, not 99.5, thus I can't get the 0 on the balancer in line with the 0 on my metal degree scale. I am suspect of the scale as well because I installed it without thinking about finding TDC when I was doing that, i just made sure it was square to the block and had the same distance to the HB from top to bottom.

I can get the advance offset to line up 20deg mark on the balancer as my "0" and just subtract 99.5 - 20 = 79.5deg. Timing light read 83deg, so 83-79.5 = 3.5degrees at 660rpm idle.
When I press on the advance arm it does not stumble, just a slight change in sound.

Ok! SnapOn MT 1261 in hand, hooked to a luminosity probe in #3,
I dial the advance offset to 99 and 0 on the balancer lines up with the timing tab.

At idle, warmed up, with cold advance/fast idle off,
I'm reading

650rpm 4 BTDC
1300rpm ?

The scale reads

2 B
-
3
-
4 <- 650rpm
-
0
- <-1300 rpm
4 A

Is the value at 1300 rpm 2 atdc? OR 4.5?

I loosened the pump. Used J29872A to move the pump a tad to the passenger side.
I remember to the passenger side because the passenger is retarded

Put it back together and saw no change....try again

Moving IP to the passenger side retards timing, moving to the drivers side advances.
Where are you marks currently?
Here is the thread from a while on timing.

The pump did not come from this motor.
The mark on the timing cover is a straight line.
The mark on the pump is a circle with a line through it plus someones screwdriver mark gash, so it's not real clear.

I had the pump 1mm advanced because I used the wrong mark.
I think I have it dead center now.

I saw the scale wrong:

The scale reads

12 BTDC
-
8
-
4 <- 650rpm
-
0
- <-1300 rpm
4 ATDC

1300rpm is pointed at 2 ATDC, right?
