No. The 5th gear nut 'generally" doesn't come loose on these. The 5th gear nut fix that they sell won't work on these anyway. it uses a setscrew in the nut but our versions have a harmonic damper on them which makes that kit as far as I can see unusable. Part of the reason they come loose on Dodges is because that Cummins rattles every nut and bolt loose from bumper to bumper.
Some think it's the length of the spline on the main shaft.

Just a little food for thought, if you do plan on swapping in a 12valve later on down the road, you also might want to plan on a gear swap or going to a larger tire. From driving my cummins everyday for 3 years now I've found that is the happiest cruising under 2000 rpm's. Even with my set up of 3.54 gears, nv4500 and equivalent of a 33" tall tire my truck doesnt like 70mph which puts me at 2,300 rpms or so. Dont get me wrong, power is there but you can hear the engine sounding rapped out and the milage will drop from around 20mpg@60mph to 12-15mpg@70mph. I find the 12valve is at home at about 1800rpm's, it makes power alot lower in the power band than the 6.2's or any v8 diesel for that matter. Ofcourse this is my experience with my cummins that is turned up to around 350hp and 800+lbft of torque, so I don't even know what down shifting for hills is in this truck, lol.

Somebody say Cummins?
Kenny, I have checking around toying with idea of a 6bt swap and I am wondering what is involved... So far I see a lot of work to get this swap to work..... Intercooler looks to a nightmare, crossmember remove and replace with a modified one, cutting required on the front crossmember, cutting on the frame to get a Dodge a/c compressor on the motor. Is it worth it? I found a nice deal on a 6bt and well now my head gears are turning.
