Hey Guys I Just Got My Alt Back a few Days Ago, & Now I Hear The Same Whistle, Took Off the S-Belt, No Noise On Any Pulleys. Was Wondering Can I Start The Truck Without the S-Belt, & Any Ideas On The Whistle?
If It was a v belt setup I'd say make sure the alt.fan blades weren't rubbing the bracket. Mine made that kind of a noise with my worn bracket lol. Have you checked your tensioner bearing/bushing maybe? I've heard them make some funny noises. Also with the serpent setup do you have a belt drive vac pump? Of So could It have a pinhole leak?
Tensioner Is Okay, Vac Pump Is Okay, But I Have a EGR Hose Disconnected & Plugged, It Sounded Like That Alt Bearing, But Alt & All Other Pulleys Are Okay By Hand Spinning, Can I Start The Truck With Out The Serpentine Belt?
no you'll be fine. Just remember what's been said. Only run it for a minute two at the max. I'd check when the engine's cold, that way you can let it run a little longer since the coolant has to heat up from outside temperature.
crank bearing as in the bottom end? If the bearing was spun, you'd have a rod knock as well since the oil for the rods passes through the oil for the mains into the crankshaft. If you spin a main bearing the oil hole in the main web and the oil hole in the bearing are no longer lined up, therefore no oil gets through to the main journal(tearing the crap out of it) and no oil gets to the rods that oiling hole goes to, tearing the crap out of the bearing(s) and rod journal as well.
Not to mention your hot oil pressure would suck, and after the rod bearing hammers the christ out of itself on the rod journal, the piston would hit the head since there's only about 0.020 clearance between piston crowns and cylinder head in the stock configuration.
Doubt it's a bottom end problem.
Any chance you can get a video of it? Without hearing the noise, we are flying blind and guessing. That doesn't help you much at all.
was it that "chirp chirp chirp" sound towards the end of the video? That sounds like a worn out serpentine belt to me. If there's a piece of the ribbed area missing or badly cracked it'll slip, causing a chirp sound.
Yes Thats the Noise Towards the End, & Sorry About The Quality Of the Video, Thats a Brand New $90 Kevlar Heavy Duty Belt From NAPA, I Put Some Lube On It & No More Chirp Noise So Far, Thanks Dave
this sounds way dumb i know, but try takin off your oil fill cap and see if you can hear that sound any louder. i noticed an odd whistle/squeak comin from my engine, only to find its comin from inside. still have no idea what it is, but i got good oil pressure, no miss, no smoke, thinkin maybe its just valve train. all detroits are so damn loud.
