My truck has been running fine, but this morning I got a change fuel filter message. Well I was at the campground so I didn't do it. On the way home she went in limp mode, I got to rest stop, unhooked the batts and cleared the code. Did it again about 10 miles later. So I got a filter and changed on the side of the road, but didn't reset the light. Made it about 20 miles and same this. So I had my brother rollback come get me. The code was low fuel rail pressure????
mine does same thing I changed fuel lines and added lift pump, and race plug, still no fix. next step is injectors and cp3 nothing 5000.00 plus wont cure. seems like theres a bunch of lmm same way [used]
I started out on a short road trip last fall. Had to stop for break, had too much coffee, and decided to top off. Must have gotten bad fuel. About 2 hrs down the road my truck went into limp mode. Had a cel and low fuel rail pressure. Just happen to be able to pull off highway 2 blocks from GMC dealership. They were booked and told me there was a min. 4 hr. Wait for service. I told them all I wanted was anew fuel filter so I could get back on the road. They sold me a filter and loaned me the tools and I changed it in their lot. I cleared the code with my reader and went on my way. Got 200 miles down the road and it happened again. I had reached my destination by this time. I had still not refueled, I figured I needed to run as much fuel out as possible. Went into Oreillys auto parts bought another filter and changed it. Reset code and did not fill up until fuel light came on. Never had another problem after that.
This was in my 2006 LBZ not my new truck.
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your vehicle. Tim, that's funny I got this tank from Sheets which I would think goes thru fuel pretty quick, but I was little less than half way done with the tank when it happened. I have since the original message, clear the code and its doing fine lol....
Well guys my truck has done fine this winter, but once again it's summertime now I'm pulling my camper and boat, and what do you know "reduced engine power" comes on the P0087 low fuel rail pressure code. I left Hatteras Island, 4 1/2 hour trip home, had to stop 11 times because truck went into Limp mode with P0087. I know there is a lot of threads on this board about this code and I have read them all, but it seems like everyone has done something different to your truck and fixed it. And I've had numerous people tell me it needs a little but I don't feel like that actually curious the problem. The truck has a flash program on it when I bought it and I do not know what tune is in it but it does not feel radical by any means. I took it to the stealer ship and of course they told me it needs a injectors. But it doesn't smoke whatsoever, none, never and starts right up every time with no issues. I had another diesel shop say it does not need injectors it needs a CP3 pump because it's getting weak, and when the truck is under heavy load like a 15k pound camper you can cannot keep up with demand. I watch the fuel pressure on my scanner and it shows MPAs anywhere from 500 up to 61,000? Is that right? I literally am at my wits end with this truck, I'm a die hard Chevy fan and this Duramax was my first and I waited a long time to get it, but I'm very disappointed....
I think I would go with a lift pump before I would spend $1300-$2200 for a Dual Fueler.
But with the OP still having the DPF and stock muffler on and not knowing what tune he has.
I think his best bet would be check the fuel lines if he hasn't, have it flashed back to stock if the lines are ok.
When he does delete the DPF and Muffler he will have to get a tuner that will allow this.
And maybe consider putting on a quality fuel filter besides the junk O'Reillys and NAPA sells.
Quality like the RACOR COALESCER Part#: PFF50216
I am going to the dealer to get it flashed back stock, and I'm only using factory Delco filter because they said after market could course this problem. Could it be a fuel rail pressure switch issue??
I feel you need to see what happens after your back to stock again and see how that goes.
I also would be wondering about the condition of your DPF with 240,000 miles.
A/C Delco fuel filters have changed the internal design there has been several discussions on this. And they are not positive discussions.
Racor use to supply GM's fuel filters from what I remember a few years back.
Racor from what I read no longer makes the A/C Delco fuel filter anymore for the Dmax.
You diffently want to stay far away from NAPA/Wix fuel filters, there are many discussions on the internet with a lot of negative responses.
yes Kennedy I do remember you stating that last time, I actually called you and talk to you Monday on my trip home when the truck was doing this. I have heard a lot of people recommend your lift pump and your tuning as you did Monday but I still don't feel like that fixes the issue more or less puts a Band-Aid on it

Your injectors are worn. They run fine, they seem to test fine, but if you ran them at 180mpa and measured leakback they will be well out of spec.
The tuning is a band aid yes, but it has been highly effective. The lack of a lift pump is a contributing factor though and something that EVERY Dmax should have.
So what I am trying to say is that if you replace the injectors you will almost undoubtedly fix the issue for now. The problem is unless you do something to protect the fresh injectors they will just repeat.
Same problem here. 117k miles, and low fuel rail pressure code, my first code on this truck. I have a Kennedy single lift pump and the Kennedy economy/tow tune for about 100k miles. Cleared the code and pulling the next mountain pass, out west, it came back again. Visited John when I returned to WI and he modified/updated the tune. No codes since but haven't tested it hard, yet, I will do that on my trip out west again this fall. Have to say John Kennedy's service is outstanding - discussed my options, modified the tune to help keep the code away; all at no charge to me and sent me away a happy customer. Thanks John.
