K&N filter causing reduced power

Hello. I recently installed an oiled K&N filter in the stock air intake in my 2007 lmm. The truck has no mods, no programmer, etc. The filter is seated good and tight and appears to be fine.

After driving for a day or two, the reduced engine power warning will appear. The truck doesn't lose power, appears to run normal. The engine light will remain on, but no more REP warning. When I switch back to the stock filter, the engine light will go out after a couple of days or so many engine starts, and everything is back to normal. I have tried this twice and it is the exact same result.

Any idea what could be causing the K&N filter to throw the REP warning light on?

Thanks

Those K&N filters and their air intake kits are notorious for messing up the Mass Airflow Sensors. Maybe residue from the oiled filter is getting on the MAS.

The oil from the K&N will cause the Mass Air Flow sensor to go bad. It causes build up in the sensor and causes the light to come on.

I have read that K&N cause issues on these trucks also.

Been there - done that. 1st GM has a service bulletin not to use any filter other than their own and they name K & N as not to use. 2nd K & N has a notice not to use their filter unless you do the entire air intake system. K & N returned my money for the filter.
Oil from the filter getting on the sensor is one of many stories. The actually problem per GM and K & N is that too much air is coming into the engine. Both their stories - not mine. Buy a G M filter is the solution.

I had the same issue. Got mine at Autozone after the representative recommended it. I went on a trip towing my toy hauler and the check engine light came on. I had my diagnostic tool in the truck and ran the code and it was the mass air flow. I had to reset the code everytime it went off or it would go into reduced power mode. I took it back to Autozone and they tried to blame the issue on me. I advised them that I never had a single issue with the stock filter before using the K&N. After some haggling they refunded my money. I put the stock filter back in and no issues since.
