Rumbling noise when in gear??

08 LMM truck idles fine and sounds normal but when you are sitting with your foot on the brake and truck in reverse or a foward gear there is this more of a deep throated rumble or a different noise than what our other LMM makes when it's doing the same thing. The other trucks engine will sound more like it under a load under the same condition but doesn't make this different deep throated rumble or growling sort of noise?? Is this what it does when it's in regen mode or something?? Just doesn't sound quite normal. Any help??

Maybe I should say it sounds more like a mild powerstroke or something??

Mine sounds the same when the truck is started in the morning, if you leave it in park it's kind of quiet but if you put it in gear it sounds like a louder diesel, if I put it back in park the louder noise goes away. Put it in gear and it's loud again. But after driving awhile and the rest of the day the truck sounds the same in gear or in park.

I thought it must be something with the tranny but I'm not sure.

Yeah, mine does too. Your putting the engine under a load when you put it into gear, so it will grunt a bit more than usual, especially when cold.

OK, maybe it is alright, It was plenty warm the other day so was kinda strange. It's not like its running rough or shaking, it just sounds like a clattering diesel

regen ?

Maybe it is in regen - my truck sounds great when in regen nice rumble and throughty? when on the throttle - even though its wasting a rediculous amout of fuel! When not in regen it is pretty quite. Almost every time i come to a stop and still in gear it idles normal but will switch to rumble for 5 seconds or so and then go back to quite - not sure what that is about? Much more noticable with a dpf back exhaust.

Just what i've noticed.

I've got an MBRP DPF back exaust and have the exact same sound experience as you. Sounds "mean" when in regen!

Fuel filter may be starting to restrict on that truck more than the other one. They start to clatter more when it's time to change.

My LMM doesn't do this ... don't think, anyway.
I wonder if your torque converter has some sort of imbalance?
Bad bearing, maybe??

open the hood and watch the a/c compressor when it engages the truck will rumble really nice for a few seconds then kick out and return to running quiet .my dads 06 does it more often than my 08 . wish it would sound lke that all the time. i have dpf delete so its very noticible nothing to do with the regen
