2006 Duramax starter issues

Hi i have a 2006 chevy 2500hd with the lly motor and the starter seems to stay on for just a second to long. We scanned for codes and found that the crankshaft position sensor was faulty, and it turned out that it was recieving the wrong voltage and not allowing it to function right (My friends dad is the lead truck and diesel mechanic at the chevy dealer). My main concern is that when you start the truck up the starter stays on to long. We pulled the starter out and the starter gear was torn to peices. I know it not me because it does this after i have let go of the key. The new starter only does this every now and then. Any thoughts would be appreciated

why not bring it to the dealer and have it fixed under warranty? seems like the logical thing to do on a new truck.

Doesn't sound like a starter problem to me...especially if the old one and the new one do the same thing. Check the voltage on the solenoid wire when the starter runs too long. If you see 12 volts after the ignition switch is released, you don't have a starter problem. Need to look at the relay, ignition switch or aftermarket installations.
