Has any body hooked up the factory turbine brake, and what were the results like?

#2 ·
You need EFI Live to have that feature it doesn't come from the factory with that.

#23 ·
How's that crow tasting?

#3 ·
I want to.

4 speed Dave is actually wrong. The LBZ has the programming to do so. There's a whole topic on another duramax forum that outlines how to do that. NO EFI LIVE NEEDED!!

#4 ·
O.K. that was helpful, now how does one get a stock LBZ without EFI live or a custom program to have that feature?

#6 ·
I'm not going to copy someone else's information and post it, and I can't link to the other forum.

It's not that difficult to google duramax discussion forums, click on first result, look in the DIY section, then click on LBZ: HOW TO: Activate factory exhaust brake

Interesting find there. I have the brake feature activated via EFI live and it is awesome. If you don't have a trailer behind you it will bring your truck to a stop without touching the brake. I like how it helps the transmission hold the speed constant on steep hills as I am usually heavy. It is one feature I would not want to be without.

I wired mine up a month ago it works pretty good. The biggest gripe I have is the 2 second delay for it to actavate after a gear change. On the plus side it works on cruse control while my old fleece turbo brake wouldn't.

#9 ·
I'm wanting to do this, but would like some pictures if you got them of install and switch you used.

#10 ·
I want to do this as well. It seems like a pretty simple job. I would also like to see some pictures if you got em.

#11 ·
Picked up a rocker switch from the shack and incandescent bulb picked up push pins from stealer. Bout to do this mod as I tow my trailer around 1 a month for a trip and there are hills both ways. Soon as I get it in ill report in:ro)

#12 ·
Could you PLEASE take some pictures? Also some part numbers of the switch and bulb and how you hooked them up?

Thanks

#14 ·
Sorry if this question seems redundant.

Do you run a wire from pin 53 to switch, then from switch to ground in order to ground and cancel ground?

Then run another wire from pin 11 to the grounded light for power?

That is what I'm comprehending, is it correct?

Thanks,
Richard

If you wanted to use an illuminated toggle switch I'm sure that would be fine. However it would only tell you if the switch was turned on. It would not tell you when the engine braking program was actually being commanded by the PCM.

If you want the light to come on only when the vehicle is actually using the engine braking program then you need to wire the light in as shown in the schematic, it needs to be its own circuit.

I didn't start this thread. You're on your own in here.

#30 ·
I wasn't only talking about not helping I was talking about your attitude. pretty sure you don't get it. Peace

You can read between the lines all you want. Fact of the matter is, I have way better things to be doing than hopping on here every other hour and answer a bunch of questions. When I posted this I expected there would be a few guys that would hang around and help out. And, there are. So if I don't get around to answering a direct question, oh well. Someone else will probably hop in and answer it. Maybe this mod is too much for you and you should just sell your rig and move on to something more simple, like a unicycle. And if you think my post about the other guy eating crow is being a d1ck, maybe people shouldn't answer questions when they don't know the correct answer. Too many people think they know stuff when the only "knowledge" they have has been gleaned from the internets, and then regurgitated.

^^lol

are you guys really still dragging this out? This is a great mod (that Im glad bballer shared with us) because Im planning on doing soon. But let it go already. :crap:

#39 ·
Lol. If you tow anything, it is. Pretty darn cool.

#40 ·
It sounds like a good modification, I really don't tow anything and the most weight I put in it is my camper and I use the tow mode very rarely, so I guess it wouldn't be that much of a benefit to me.

I like the idea though and I'm one of those who didn't know it even existed. It is a good thing to keep in mind for the future.

Turbo Brake on LBZ

I run a 06 3500 WT LT1 (LBZ) Weld Rig and carry 14,200 lbs. all the time. This would be Awesome to have but my question is, will this cause a strain on the Turbo and cause a earlier than normal problem or failure?

Nope not that I've heard of but not 100% sure .I had the banks system for 100k of heavy pulling and never had an issue...it's worth it

#43 ·
Bballer wasn't insinuating you were like my old fart neighbor who is actually pretty cool.. it's a hell of a mod...I had the banks brake on my lly and doing Efi turbo braking on my lmm soon...wish there was a cheat for the lmm but I havnt found one...I pull 18k 40' toyhauler through the sierras a lot and it REALLY helps...didn't mean to stir the pot but it seems like a lot of "do it for me" guys on these forums and I think the guys who know their sh1t like yourself don't spend as much time these days..kinda sucks

I think there was a period a while back when I hadn't been on here in a year or better. Really I'm not trying to avoid the, "do it for me," people. My interests and priorities have just shifted a bit. Not to mention i have everything done to my truck i wanted to do originally. Now, instead of spending all my time here, I spend it on arfcom and nwfa, buying selling and trading items:cool:....

I'm done posting on this thread. good luck to everyone.

I remember why I like this site (great info for those who are willing to mod with some effort). T-case pump rub, PCV reroute, etc. Now this; excellent info for a cheap upgrade that is well worth the effort.

I remember why I don't like this site (constant bickering and in-fighting ....)

I suppose they are inseparable; can't have one without the other.

Since thread has become cluttered up with a lot of back-and-forth bickering,
I would to make a suggestion to the mods to maybe make it more helpful to people trying to learn how to do the turbo brake modification with no custom programming to the OEM ECM:

Probably could delete posts #2 thru #4 (incorrect info & responses to it).
Then cut off this thread what is now post #18 and make sure there's one more post after that with this link to the main thread about this mod.

HOW TO: ACTIVATE FACTORY TURBINE BRAKE

so commenting on a thread that is out of control that the thread is out of control is helpful? come on guys...ain't nothing in life perfect...get the info you need, avoid the stuff you don't like, and get on with it. it takes all kinds to keep this mudball spinning...don't worry about what others are saying or how they're saying it...if you don't like it, change the channel...if you like it, stay tuned. this is a great site with great info and a band of characters that will if nothing else, keep you entertained...but for me, it's a goldmine of dmax knowledge and I'll take the stuff I don't like to get the stuff I do...easy trade off for me. now someone make an inappropriate comment and call me a tool or douche or something so we can get this thread going again! :hehe:

Depends on what you want from forums like this.

Semi-relevant conversation/argument or information that helps people accomplish something.

There's a place for the former (elsewhere), but too much of it causes people searching for the latter to not find what they're looking for, and so they ask questions that have already been answered, but were lost amongst all the other gobble-de-****, a category in which this (precipitated) post belongs.
