Okay Chevy Guys... I bought a GMC for (exactly) $360.00 more than the Chevy. Why? Because it's my money
Anyways... The "Baby" has arrived 2-days early. A 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD, Crew-Cab, 4x2, SLT, 6.6 Duramax LBZ, Allison 6-Speed, Dual Alternators, Dual Batteries, Heavy Duty Towing Package... Awesome.:ro)
Her job is to pull my '05 33-Foot, 10,000lb., Cardinal, Travel-Trailer. (I didn't get a 4x4 because I don't need one...) and get better than 7-MPG. (What I got with the 8100-Yukon)
:rant: No... It does not fit in the Garage... I have a new (2002) home that has a 20-Ft. garage-floor (2-10Ft Slabs), and with the Front Licence-Plate touching the wall, I need 6-More-Inches... (Doesn't every man) So... I have to park in the driveway...
All 2500 & 3500 HD Crewcabs - GMC and Chevy - are assembled in Flint Michigan, on the same assembly line. Extended & regular cab HD's are all made at the Pontiac Michigan plant.
When my family was in the car business, we would get in Chevy pick-ups with GMC tail gates, GMC steering wheel emblems, and so on. GM supplied the correct items and paid to have them replaced. The problem was that if it was a special order, the customer got P/O'ed (and rightly so) that he couldn't get his truck.
Screw-ups like this would only happen if they shared a common assembly line. The reason given was that if they ran out of Chevy parts, they would put the GMC parts on so they wouldn't shut the production line down. I suppose that the reverse happened with GMC trucks also.
The factory knew of this practice and while it didn't officially approve, (as far as I know), it didn't stop the practice. It was far cheaper to have the problem corrected at the dealer level than correct it at the assembly plant.
The last Chevy that I bought new was in 1994. Since then I have had several GMC's, as I felt that they had a better looking front end. The 2005 Chevy that I got this year has in my opinion a better looking front end that It's GMC counterpart.
Other than that, it is the same truck. If I hadn't found the Chevy, then I would have bought a GMC.
Good Luck with your new truck. I hope that it serves you well.
PS:
If you want to stir the pot, :stirthepo go over to the Dodge or Ford board.
Chevy and GMC owners need to stick together.
the first number in the VIN will tell which country the truck was made
1 = USA
2 = Canada
3 = Mexico (I think)
