Common Duramax Problems?
My dad is interested in buying an 06 Chevy 2500 with a Duramax to tow a fifth wheel camper. He wanted me to ask if there are any issues with this new (LBZ) engine, and the 6 speed alli. I saw the sticky on the glow plugs, but anything else? (transmission included). I have heard of other problems on the older DMax, so that is why I am asking.
p.s.- My grandpa has an 06 Dmax... and he let me drive that thing (i'm 17)... that thing is FAST! Quickest truck I've ever driven. I love it! Edit: VERY weary about aluminum heads Last edited by flyby; 09-24-2006 at 10:06 PM. |

You will get a pretty good sense of common issues by looking at this site. However, the biggest one right now seems to be EGR valve failures.

5000 miles w/ ZERO issues, yeah it isnt much but its a start.
Dont worry about the aluiminum heads, its just some stupid excuse for ford and dodge girls to rip on our trucks. And the glow plug thing..its in the past (GM fixed it) and I havent heard anything about it in quite some time.

12k miles no issues..
And i have been running a bully dog triple dog since i got it at 12 miles... These truck are built right and you want have many problems.. Thanks Tyler And on the alum head i have them on my 6.0L and there fine they seem |

18K no issues. I'd only be worried about the heads if people were having issues.... Which they aren't.

10,000 miles, pulling a light 6,000 lbs tavel trailer over the Shasta Cascade & Syskiyou mountains. A few times it shifted into 5th gear while going up some of the steeper grades. Other than that, no other remarkable comments. It does the job, period. I actually like this truck more today than the day I drive it off the lot six months ago.
