8.1 oil filter, Carquest one is very short

I am ready to fill it with some synthetic oil. So I go to get a filter at Carquest. It sure is short. I should be able to find one twice as long. Any tips?

Thanx.

The oil filters are small. Use the right one. I use Mobil 1 filters, but who knows if they are really any better.

Is yours a 2WD or 4WD?

Than you should be able to use a longer filter. For us 4WD guys, we're stuck with the shorter filter because the output side of the front differential is right below the oil filter and there's very little room.

Thanx DEWFPO. The only longer one I have found was made by Amsoil.

I also purchased an Amsoil but when I changed the oil I noticed the guy gave me one for syn oil. Can this be used on regular oil Castrol? It is a little shorter than the stock version.

Yes, what you are referring to is a filter from Amsoil with synthetic media instead of paper media. It can be used for any oil.

Thanks for your answer. Probably more $$$ for this filter. Better protection.

A Car Quest 85060 (NAPA 1060) is a longer version of the 84099 that spins right on a 2wd.
