Good deal on 8.1L

Hey I'm looking for a second plow truck over here. A dealer is selling a lease return. It's a 2005 GMC 2500HD regular cab 4x4 work truck, with the 8.1L and 135,000 miles. It sounds good at first, but I don't know anything about the 8.1L and its quirks at certain mileages. Any input?

EDIT: They want $8,900.

8.1L with 4.10's is an awesome plow truck! Thats not a bad deal for that year, the mileage is a little high, but not bad. hmmmm....I'd probably get IT!! Offer the 8K

GM designed the motor to last at least 200,000. As long as the previous owner took care of it things should be fine. Just keep an eye on the oil level. Some like to use oil- and it is normal.

Mine used a MASSIVE amount of oil, about 2 quarts a 1K miles, but $8 worth of a 180* thermostat COMPLETELY solved that problem. Oil level NEVER moves now.

Oh yeah, my friend has a 01 8.1L with 300,000 on it, and drives it like a race car. Dont think he has even changed anything except the oil. Runs great

300,000? That is a good sign. I'm at 185,000.

Yeah, it runs great. I'm at 110,000 pushing 8 lbs of boost on my 8.1L. Holding together strong so far!

Boost? You have the kenne bell supercharger? I was looking (and dreaming) last week about those.

I would hate to have to buy rear tires once a month- I know I wouldn't be able to resist not burning them off.

Thanks guys, I'm going to let it sit for a week or so and then offer $8k. Just bought a house so I really shouldn't be looking for another plow rig, but it seems like a heck of a deal. Will keep you posted...
