diesel vs gasoline fuel tanks

Is there any difference between the diesel fuel tanks and the gasoline fuel tanks on the same size truck?

My truck is a 2005 2500HD CCSB with the 8.1L and allison. The 26 gallon fuel tank on the shortbed trucks is a cruel JOKE. The diesel guys will agree.

I want to get a titan fuel tank, but they say it's only for diesel trucks. So what's different?
I say NO to transfer-flow because I dont want a steel gas tank that rusts inside and weighs 200 pounds empty. I'm sorry but that's just dumb for my purposes....

Thanks for replies!

Right, but can I put an 8.1L fuel pump in the TITAN "diesel" fuel tank?

I called the company, and he didn't know. He just said they dont advertise the tank for gas trucks due to liability, epa, etc.

I was looking at tanks and saw that Titan only listed diesel tanks. But then I ran across transferflow.com. They list diesel and gas applications. They aren't necessarily cheap...but I can understand why you'd want a larger tank with the 8.1L.

I installed a Transfer Flow tank into a Diesel last month and there's no way it was that heavy (200 lbs). Probably not even half that. The differences are that the Diesel tanks lack the EVAP equipment and certifications for it, they are technically illegal but I doubt you'll find an inspector east of CA that would find it. I think that it could be installed though. There was an unused bung or two for the Diesel.

I wouldnt like the idea of a big metal fuel tank in the bed of my truck sitting in the hot summer sun,you will lose a gallon or more a day just to evaporation! I dont think its such a great idea to have gasoline in the bed.Have you looked into the 41 gallon replacement tanksor put the spare in the bed,and a 30 gallon where the spare is.

John the Transfer Flow tank in this post replaces the factory tank similar to the Titan but metal not plastic. Both have their advantages. I like the impact resistance of the steel over plastic when off road.

Agreed that steel is probably tougher, but steel tanks rust inside, and TF quoted me a shipping weight of 200lbs. that is a lot of unneccessary weight....
