We had a V-10 F350 at work.It was a POS.No power compared to Chevy in my opinion.Seemed like you really had to keep it in the higher revs for any kind of power.Maybe it was geared wrong?

My friends V-10 wont evn burn the tires, This is a True story. What a POS gas hog. The 8.1 has all the power you want, but poor gas milage too, about 10mpg.

The V10 is great with a manual but a dog with an automatic. All got between 8-12mpg.
We have about 25 of them at work

Both my 8.1's were up to any task I had for them. It doesn't pull a load quite as effortlessly as the dmax, nor does it get the mileage, but I dont think there is another gas Motor out there to compare it to. They do have instant power and plenty of it. Stock to stock I'd say that both my 8.1's were more fun to drive than my DMAX. I wonder if the 6 speed helped out in the mileage department at all...Mine(01 & 04) were both 5 speed allisons.

I agree....My neighbor has a V-10 F350 and its a D O G. The first thing is that it should be illegal to put dual exhaust one one of these things cause it sounds like a pissed off lawn mower and the second thing is that it get soooo bad fuel mileage its rediculous. Granted my 8.1 is no fuel effiecient truck but at least it RUMBLES when I give it the gas and tows anything you put behind it easily. Cant say that about any FORD vehicle I know of.

The V-10 is smaller in displacement than the 8.1. That might have something to do with the less power. I have only driven one truck with the V-10 and that was a camper. Did okay down the I state, but the 8.1 has more lead in it's pencil.

I guy I worked for a few years back bought a brand new 2002 F250 4x4 with the V-10. He needed a 3/4 ton and hated diesels. After 2 weeks he was back at the dealer trading it in on a Powerstroke. If I remember correctly he was averaging under 9mpg's unloaded and it didn't have an ounce of low end power. The V-10 just doesn't have enough power for any of the heavy Ford vehicles they offer it in. It does sound awfully V6-ish with dual exhast.

my ex-boss had a v10 in his f350 EC LB.... was ridin in it one day and he had to step on the gas to avoid gettin clipped by some ******** who wasnt watching where he was going.... i happened to glance down and noticed he had his foot on the floor board. the first thought through my head was "thats it??".... then i had to say it..... got a very dirty look indeed....
never driven an 8.1 or even ridden in one, but i do know the ford makes more noise than they do get up and go.....
