Anyone buy diesel in bulk?

Mods/Admins, please move this if it's not in the right place.

My friends and I are considering buying diesel in bulk. Does anyone do that here? And if so what are some pointers of doing so? I know the fuel needs to be kept dry and clean.

I estimate that I'll burn 300-400 gallons a month. Rob will burn 1400-1500 a month in one truck, 500-600 in another. And Mike will burn around 1400-1500 a month too. So on the high side that's 4000 gallons a month.

If we can get another friend to go in too with his truck and bobcat, we might be up to 4500.

Is it worth considering it? We've kicked around the idea of brewing our own bio-diesel, but getting 4000 gallons a month of WVO isn't likely.

Biobor and pri-d or sta-bil will be your friends if you decide to store fuel. You'll need something to preserve the fuel and to stop growth in it.

We're thinking weekly refils in a 1000 gallon tank Rob has. It won't set long enough for that I don't think.

I buy around 300-700 gallons at a time, it ends up costing more than it does at some local pumps, because of a delivery charge.

I am contemplating finding a new supplier.

AS a farmer we used to have all our fuel delivered. Now we just have off road diesel delivered for tractor use. With the delivery charge and whatever else it usuaully ends up about 10 cents higher deliverd in volume. If you could get a semi load, I think about 5500 gallons, you might be able to get a better deal.

Wouldn't if be simpler and perhaps just as cheap to form a joint venture on paper and apply for a CardLock like CFN ~ might even save some friendships too. You already have the ans to the questions they ask on the application.

We were actually gonna pick it up with a tank on a trailer, Just looking at biodiesel. They want 2.30 a gallon, where #2 around here is about 2.70-2.80

I'm not trying to be negative but if you pick up, you may have to have appropriate drivers license, etc for transporting fuel on public roads ( at least in calif it's that way ) I don't know about regulations for bio but many years ago I use to haul water and I had to have a tanker endorsement for that......

if you pull more than 1000 lbs of any thing that requires placards(diesel fuel or gasoline) you must have a hazmat endorsement on your license.fines start at 10000 dollars and go up from there, especially if you were to be involved in an accident.how much would you save then?
