Cummins 8.9L ISL 370 tuning?????????

Can anyone help me out. My old man has a 40ft. coach powered by the Cummins 8.9L ISL 370 and he would like better milage and a little more HP. He is very happy with both, but I'm sure someone would have a tune that would only make it better. I've contacted TS performance, and am waiting for a reply. I've searched the web, and can't find anyone with a tune. He knows of someone that has a full kit from Banks on a similar motor, but does not want to spend 5k. I'm sure someone will know something or someone. He can't part with the ECM because he just sold his house and needs it to be driveable. He is getting 12mpg - with 370 HP, 1200 lb-ft. It makes no black smoke at all, and I know that shit will do more. He's looking for 50-100 HP more if possable, but wants to keep it safe. Can anyone help?

That is very good mpg compared to other diesel pushers I have talked to. It is probably upgradeable from a Cummins dealer. I know I have seen ISL's set at 400hp in RV's before.

He isn't going to get 100 extra safely with the hardware he has now. What year is the engine?

It's a 03 in an 04 coach, I don't know the coach maker. I'm going down to the campground ground this morning, and I will clarify all the finer details. He's only looking for 50ish HP if that's not even possable safely, he doesn't want to risk it, but I'm sure it could be done? Just a little extra pull up the bigger hills in the mountain passes. If he wasn't pulling the Suzuki SUV it would probably be fine - ha ha! And yes that is good milage, but a good tune would probably make it 1-3% better, wouldn't it? It has a VVT, and I'm sure the fuel timing could be adjusted?

I don't know enough about that vintage of engine, but I know they made the ISL 400 in the same time period. I would be willing to bet that the hardware is the same. Just need to find someone who would uprate for you. Edit: this won't add torque in the low and mid, only on the top end.

Any Cummins dealer should be able to hook up and see if it is upgradeable and do it for you if it is.

IIRC the only difference in the 370 calibration and the 400 calibration is 30hp, no torque is gained it stays the same. Do you know if this is a common rail ISL or a caps fuel system ISL? If it's a common rail I'm pretty sure that a MP-8 pressure box is made for them.

Common rail. Do you know the part #? Isn't that a TS Performance product? I emailed TS Performance and they said none will work as of yet, but maybe in the near future. They run these motors in a lot of motor coaches, and push pretty well. But, I'm sure anyone that can afford a $200k+ motor coach, wouldn't mind spending $600 on something that gave them a little more power and better fuel milage!

Does the motorhome have propane appliances? If so, you already have a tank. Put propane injection on it.

I have an ISB 275 HP in a 38 ft Htr Hme that gets 10.5@60 MPH. May I suggest that you do NOTHING and leave it alone...it is not a car or a pickup...with fuel economy like that anything you do will IMHO make it worse!
