ford 1520 HST filter blowout

Hi, Just wanted to pick some brains. I have a ford 1520 hydro compact tractor and it has developed a problem with blowing the gasket out on the HST filter. Has anyone on here had or heard of this problem and what the fix was. I was looking on a tractor forum and one guy says to use a new holland filter, I am using wix now. Would a different filter really solve the problem or is there a common problem with these tractors.
Thanks

When was the hydraulic oil changed last?
Also how cold is it when the o-ring is blowing out on you?

If the oil that you are running in the tractor does not have a good water inhibitor additive package it could be putting too much pressure on the filtration system and blowing the o-ring.

Just my thoughts.

Update

Just a little update on what I have found out. Seems as this is a fairly common problem with these tractors especially in cold weather. Talked to the mech at local New Holland dealer, these tractors can see HST oil pressure as high as 150 to 200 psi at cold start. I have pulled the filter adapter and checked for obstructions all is clear. I picked up a new filter at dealer, they have 2 different filters the standard one (SBA340501030) that goes for about $30 and a new "cold weather" filter (SBA340500980) that goes for about $75, it is one heavy duty looking sob. Well that is the one I went with and hope to get a chance to work on it in the next couple days ( deer season) and hope it solves the problem. Also mech said when changing filter tighten the s$#t out of the filter not just snug like a normal filter. If this doesn't solve the problem I guess it will be off to the dealer with it. I will keep you posted with the outcome.

2nd update

Hi All, Well I got to work on tractor today. Put filter adapter back on and reinstalled relief valve. Put the new and improved filter on topped off the fluid crossed my fingers and fired it up and guess what. NO LEAK!!!! Drove it around my buddies lot for about 1/2 hr and all was good so said what the heck and headed it for home it is about a 3 mile trip and it made it home with no leak. I hope this takes care of the problem but will keep you posted when the weather turns colder and see if it still is ok.
