we had a discussion about this very thing the other day.
the 04.5 is a 5 speed and the 06 is a 6 speed. From what I can gather the tcm's are different as is the wiring. it will bolt in place, but i doubt it will couple up to the electrical systems. Now having said that, i don't know if you could buy the 06 tranny and put the 04.5 valvebody and use it as a 5 speed. Someone who has played with allison may be able to help you out. Have you looked in to rebuilding your tranny???

It can be made to work but isn't a straight bolt in. Going to need to swap some parts from one to the other to make it work.

thanks Mike L for the info.
the parts that need to be swapped are not crazy. might add and hour or so for the swap. one of the things that need to be swapped is the valve body. the only issue i have with this is if i wanted the 6 speed could i just keep the valve body in the trans and buy a new tcm to work the 6 speed? isnt that what the "kits" that you buy contain? a new tcm and valve body? i would rather spend the money on a tcm now and get the 6 speed than spend alot more later. this truck makes me money so i need it running asap but if i can get a 6 speed for short money i will do that.

You must use the 5 speed valve body and internal harness along with changing the linkage and installing 5 speed NSBU
that is part of the pm i got from Mr. Mike L. i gues to simplify my question i will ask: If i buy the correct TCM (6spd) and had it flashed to my truck(just like the kits) would that save me the trouble of changing the valve body and NSBU. would i then have my 6 speed?
