New Trans TCM Reset To Base
I have a 2001 LB7 w/an Alli which is in need of a new transmission.
Is is necessary when installing a new or reman transmission to reset the TCM to base or can it just be driven for the relearn?. If TCM reset to base is necessary can this be performed with something other than a TECH II? Thk's in advance for the help

It is best to do a reset but if you cannot then I would run it up and down throough the gears while still on the repair hoist. Just light throttle to let it shift up and down through all the gears. Do this a few time so the TCM can see what's going on with no load on it. Then go do the same thing on the road. Take it easy and let it learn before running up in power. Not sure what tools really work as we use the Tech II or the Allison DOC tool.

Resetting the TCM Taps on 2001 to 2005 AL5 5 speed and 2006 to 2008 A40 6 speed.
* Connect the Flashscan V2 to the OBDII port. * Connect to the USB on the computer. * Open the Scan app from the V7.5 software. * click on the F12 DVT tab. * Click on the down arrow next to the box that says Target Controller * SElect the TCM controller you have in the list. * Click the Activate button. * Check the top three boxes in the Adapts tab Clear All Adapts to Fast Clear All Adapts to Fast + Base Clear All Garage Shift Adapts to Fast + Base * Next hit the Clear on each one. * Once complete shut the vehicle off for 30 secs. Not really needed but many do. * Disconnect everything and start it up. * Time to relearn. Here I am told to run through the gears easy for the first 3 to 5 times. Just let it go through the gears all the way to the top gear if possible giving it time to up shift and with light HP. Then let it coast down to downshift to back to 1st. After that you can do the same but add more power and seeing that it is all shifting smoothly. Not sure if it is needed on EFILive but I heard on taps reset on the GM Tech II scanner that its best to run through the reset twice. Sometimes it seems not to reset the first time but not sure if needed on EFILive. Not heard it before but who knows.

What is the version & build number of the v2 7.5 you are using to reset the trans to base. The one I have is Version 7.5.3 Build 36, As you can see it has been awhile since I've updated !! When I make a run the system is telling me that the TCM is not supported. I would help knowing what version & build you have so as not to spend updating dollas that are not needed. Would you know what min build number would be required for TCM support? Again "Thk's" for the help

Versions of efi are always changing. Before trying to reset it again go to the efilive website and make sure you have the most recent version downloaded then check that you have the most recent version of firmware on your V2, its a free download so dont worry about the $$
