Transynd/DEX-IV Mixture

I plan to change to Transynd soon but am wondering about the mixture of Transynd and Dex-IV in my Allison until I drain again to obtain a 100% concentration. I tow a 12k fifth wheel and want to maintain the proper level of protection for my tranny. Is this mixture safe to tow with or would you wait until you have a full concentration of Transynd in your Allison? Thanks!

There is nothing "unsafe" about towing with a mixture of DEX VI and Transynd — or 100% DEX VI, for that matter. Go ahead and tow. On the other hand, if you are concerned about conditions you may encounter, drive the truck a bit and dump the the pan a second time and refill again with a TES 295. But there are some advantages associated with a 100% or a near 100% TES 295 fluid (like Mobil Delvac or Transynd, or possibly one of the clones). These synthetic fluids handle high heat and very cold temperatures better than the DEX VI fluids. Judge for yourself what Allison has to say (especially p. 56 and on). It takes a while to download. http://www.allisontransmission.com/s...t=OM3757EN.pdf

I went this morning to get some new spin ons and 2 gals of transynd. Getting ready to walk out and the parts guy told me that it will not mix with Dex-VI so I returned the oil. On the way home, I decided to call Allison and ask them. They said "No problem mixing the 2 together, but DO NOT powerflush", which I knew. On the broucher I picked up at the shop, it also shows Delvac ATV. Asked about that and he said it was Tes-295 approved so it would be fine also.

Long story short. Go for it. I will back tommorrow to buy some again. I hate pats guys!

Not an issue, it is just not a "full" TES-295 fluid that can attain the ridiculously long change intervals that Ally advertises for their trannys running TES-295 fluid. I have read that once you dump pan and refill twice with TES-295 (Transynd, Delvac ATF, etc.) then you are pure enough to be considered full TES-295 and can take advantage of the extended drain intervals advertised by Ally.

I have a mix as I have drained/filled once with TES-295 and have towed, it is a non-issue.

I have a mix of Dex III in mine right now. Been towing with it too. I changed mine in July if I remeber correctly. I am going to be doing it again probably in a couple months thought, to get the rest of the Dex out.
