Tranny Pan bolts stripped
Hi All
My mechanic has thrown in the towel for trying to change my tranny fluid and filter because of stripped bolts he cannot get out!  The previous "work" done is frightening. They used lock tight on the bolts which were hard to get out. Then to compensate for the stripped bolts they tightened the other ones REAL tight. One bolt was even a larger size in an attempt to make a new thread tap! He recomends a transmission shop. My fear now is the tranny shop will Fu*# things up worse. I respect my mechanic for not making a bad situation worse. Any comments or ideas welcome.NicK |

Helicoil inserts are VERY reliable when done correctly. A helicoil kit will come with everything but the bolts and drill bit, to repair 10 holes. Using the correct drill bit (size written on kit packaging), drill the hole to same depth as original, use supplied tap, tap the hole, using supplied insert, thread insert in with supplied plastitool, and, Voila, you have better than new threaded hole.

Thanks for the input, will either try the helicoil inserts or take Ruby to a "professional" tranny guy. Some of the products noted here I cannot get in Canada; like the duratherm (tec?) glow plugs. All I got in Canada was a vacant look, and a huh?
