is this cause for concern?
I've had the truck for two years, and never noticed this until after the first dune trip with the new (to me) 11-12k lb toy hauler. I've pulled it once more since then and it hasn't gotten any worse.

That's not awesome, but it's not terribly concerning, yet. If you are consistently towing 11-12K off the tag hitch I suggest replacing the stocker with a good Class V hitch. The stock hitches are known to be somewhat weak.

That's what I was thinking. I'll just keep and eye on it until I'm able to get a new one.

I've never seen anything like that before. What is putting force on the outer part of the pin to cause the damage like that?
The hitch itself should take the brunt of the load, and the pin just keeps it from sliding out, which is rather easy given the friction inside the mount when the trailer is attached. I've even pulled my pin out before with a trailer on to swap it to a different pin.

I suspect you may have something going on with the rest of the hitch to cause that kind of wear. Lots of folks have reported developing cracks in these hitches, and that is what I'd be looking for. The pin hole should not be wearing like that.

It was a cheap hitch. Brand new though. There is some play in it, I'll have to check it out on Sunday when I pick up the trailer.

Typical wallowing of the hole. Not suprising and no immediate concern. The tow will continue to get more sloppy.
Should be able to replace with a quality hitch for less than $200. If I was regularly towing 12k, I would replace sooner than later. Stock is pos. Maybe my old thread will help with a new purchase decision? Curt hitch 15513 vs 15512 or 15602

Thanks chargeit, I didn't realize they were so cheap. Curt is a good brand then?
Camco 48054 RV 1400 lb Eaz Lift is the hitch we got.

X2 what everyone else is saying. I know from my time at RV.net that the stock GM hitches are known problematic when used at or near their limits, especially cracks forming.
