I put together my own kit. I have a hitch hook like this
http://www.etrailer.com/Ball-Mounts/Curt/C45500.html Plus a 20' long 1/2 chain and a 20' tow strap, rated at 20,000 pounds.

I'd suggest a 20 or 30 foot sling. Get one rated for 20,000 lbs. And a clevis or two. A sling rolls up nicely for storage.
Chains break, throw links like bullets, and bend frames because of no give. And 20,000 sling will gently pull you out, or gently pull the tow hooks off the frame of your truck. Lighter slings will fray and stretch if over stressed. If over stressed they will break and fall to the ground, not fling through your windshield.

The oil companies here in Western Canada have been using something called DITCH HITCH. Google it, see the youtube demo...

I have always gone with using the trailer pin and putting the strap inside the hitch for straight pulls. I have a 30' 30,000 lb strap that I use. Luckily I have not gotten into a situation where I need to pull at an angle causing stress on the strap where it would rub on the hitch. Nor have I gotten into a situation where I was pulling hard enough to risk breaking a strap. I wouldn't skimp on cost when buying recovery equipment. You don't want cheap equipment to fail on you when you need it. It will also last the rest of your life if you treat it right.

I have an arb snatch strap. I got mine from 4wheelparts.com. Also bought a shackle mount from them for like 40 dollars. I also have had the procomp brand recovery strap they worked good untill some dumb f!!!! did a burn out on it after i pulled him out. The arb one is a little nicer with a nice protective sleeve built into it that slids. The procomp one had some plastic vinly on the loops to help protect it but mine cracked out from use. My old strap took a lot of abuse it was used back in my younger days got abused bad. It was shackled to another 30' strap and one was all slack and about 15' of the other was all slack and the guys truck that was pulling the stuck truck just put it to the floor with that much slack trying to yank another buried truck out never broke or had anyproblems. I would recomend both of them straps. I think the arb one is a little nicer though.
