DPF Delete or not

I have a 09 GMC LMM 3500 dually. I have problems keeping the EGT's down. I have MBRP 4" exhaust Banks Cold air intake. When I changed the exhaust it deleted the muffler. Edge CS system with EGT Probe installed on the passenger side. Will deleting the DPF improve my EGT problem?? Will I get better fuel mileage right now I am getting around 10 while pulling a trailer. The Edge Programmer doesn't impress me I didn't seem to gain me anything in power like expected. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, deleting the dpf will help with exhaust temps. Delete the doc too while you are there. Straight pipe will help egt's big-time.

You will also have to have a different programmer is you want to delete the dpf.

Depends on the which Edge unit you have. If you have the Edge Juice with Attitude module system then that will not be usable on DPF delete. You need a programmer to alter the ECM tuning to disable the regeneration of the DPF system. If you have the Edge that programs then it needs to be the Race version to do the job. Removing the DPF and DOC will help on EGTs. But first what are you looking at as what you may consider high. Staying under 1300 is what is needed. Even in regen 1100 is normal. If pulling a grade and getting high EGTs you can drop a gear to help there as well as lower the power level. More power means more heat. Also include my normal welcome to help you out on the site better.

Welcome to Diesel Place Forum. Lots of great info here. To help you out to make the most use of the forum site here are a few things to do and use.

Of course some searches produce many pages of post. One possible way to narrow your search is goto one of the many varies sections. Once in that section you will see a an option called Search This Forum. Enter your search item there and it only search in that section instead of the entire site.

3. Google Search:
Another great way to search is goto Google and search there. Many results point back to this forum site.

4. Signature Setup:
Next is fill out your Signature with your vehicle specs and mods done. Try to keep it updated as vehicle or mods change. Knowing what you have will usually get better and faster answers to your questions. You can locate this under your User CP that is located up in the tool bar of the forum site.So take some time and get this filled out. The updated info will show up in your next post.

5. Sticky Post: I really suggest looking at many of these now. May find something that may apply to you now.
Under many of the forum sections at the top are what is called Sticky Post. Lots of great info under each of them. Be sure to take a look at them to see what one can learn from them. Example in each of the Engine sections is a sticky post that contains a link to a DTC code tool. Enter your code there and learn what it is. Then you can goto a related section and search on it for best results.

6. Posting a problem and what to gather to help it go quicker:
A good thing to do first if you have a Check Engine Light is get the code or codes read first. The codes can tell what is wrong without guessing. Even if you have a Reduce Engine or any DIC display message and no CEL then still have it scanned for codes. If no code reader usually a autoparts store will read them for you but not all. Write everything down that it shows. Now if you have your own scanner and pull the P0700 code and nothing else time for a new code reader. That is the generic code off the ECM meaning the TCM has thrown some codes but the reader you have is not reading the codes off the TCM. Other info be like weather when it happened like low temperature may mean fuel gelling or if driving through snow the intake filter box may be full of snow.

Doing the delete was the best thing I have done to my truck. My dpf was clogged/cracked and going in to regen every 100 miles. I just run a stock tune w/the dpf delete. It pulls my all equipment just fine and my egts are way down. But the clogged dpf was not helping with egts.

DPF delete was well worth it. If your state has smog requirements, just be sure to hold onto it. Sound like you already have a DPF back exhaust. All you would need now is just the DPF delete pipe, which mounts between the CAT and where your DPF was. You can get those pipes for under two hundred bucks. The only thing left is a tuner to run the DPF delete. Towing my 5th wheel, I usually can get between 12 and 14 mpg. Highway mileage unloaded, I get 20-21. EGT's stay way cooler too.

How is your fuel mileage without the dpf?? Did it improve significantly or not??

I am getting more confident that deleting the dpf is the way to go. My fuel economy is about 10 - 13 empty and around 10 pulling a 4500- 5000 pound trailer. The egt's are hard to keep below 1300 and if not for shifting down and cutting power they will climb pretty fast. Where I live we don't have emission tests here so I don't have that problem.My concern is screwing up my engine.

Best money I ever spent. Smoother running truck, cleaner oil, couple extra mpg's, no regen, better spool-up, lower egt's. The list goes on and on. Tell the EPA to kiss your a$$ and delete that junk. Well worth the coin...

On the high egts towing are you using TowHaul ?
You should be using TH when towing, always.
Info on using TH is about 2/3 of the way down the page.
Suggestion manual shift, try to maintain no less than 1800 rpm's on flat ground 1800-2000 works great. On grades maintain no less than 2400-3000 max rpm's.
Down shift and up shift accordingly to maintain these RPM's.
Your EGT's, Coolant and trans temps will run cooler.
