stock gutted cat, muffler delete vs. aftermarket cat delete/catback

I'm wondering what the difference would be if i were to gut the cat, and strait pipe the rest, vs. a cat delete pipe and an aftermarket 4" exhaust

cause if i'm thinking right, both are still free flowing, and stock is 3.5" and aftermarket is 4"... doesn't seem like that big of difference... or am i wrong?

3.5" diameter = 9.62 square inches

4.0" diameter = 12.57 square inches

5.0" diameter = 19.63 square inches (more than twice the cross area of a 3.5)

Remember the formula: pi x r x r = area r = diameter/2

in which case, going from 3.5 to 4" you're increasing the cross area by over 30%. Is this significant?
