Definitely drop the tank- Its only a few bolts, a hose clamp, and a couple electrical connectors and its down! Its got to be way easier than taking a bed off! Thats my opinion! GOOD LUCK- Steven
I raised the bed. Took out the bolts on the drivers side. Loosened the bolts on the pass side. Used an engine hoist (cherry picker) with straps to the tie down points to lift the bed to gain access. Took 5 minutes to do. Plenty of room to remove the sending unit and put in different one.
Dropping the tank would have been tough with 20 + gal of fuel in it. Heck even about empty it would still be a PITA to diddle with.
