Spied 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Prototype Is Pretending to Be a Ford

Quote:
Chevrolet has been caught testing its next-generation Silverado pickup truck.

Spied while undergoing traction tests at a winter testing facility, these are the best photos spy photographers have managed to grab yet of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. The new prototypes are hitting the ice, allowing us to see it from all angles even though itís heavily camouflaged. Whatís particularly entertaining is that Chevrolet engineers are trying to trick onlookers into believing this is a Ford prototype, with F-150-shaped tail light camouflage and even a fake oval within the front grille. This is actually a common tactic from GM, which has done this in the past with the Tahoe and Yukon prototypes.

It is believed Chevrolet is turning to aluminum just like the new Ford F-150 to shed weight, despite the fact that current Chevy marketing is all about criticizing Fordís use of aluminum. Expected to reach the market in late 2018 as a 2019 model, the new Silverado aims to be a lighter, stronger and more efficient.

It looks a bit taller and the low slung frame looks to be tucked up finally.

Where does this testing happpen?

That is crazy that they are developing them so soon.
I am curious as to if the L5Ps hood scoop will cause premature component oxidization in the engine bay.

why is it crazy? the sooner they start testing the whole package, the sooner they find out problems with their design, some of which may not show up until they put a bunch of miles on it in a variety of conditions.

edit: and you can get a good indication of how much the truck is changed from the previous generation based on how early they start testing it (relative to other years).

The 2018 model is probably close to being finalized and they are working on figuring out costs of parts, when to transition which parts of their supply chain over, how the assembly plants have to change to accommodate the new model, a million details. Sure they've been doing it for a long time, but it's still a lot of stuff to do that has to be done right or else the truck ships late or with bad parts or isn't assembled right. Right now, someone is emptying a bottle of Pepto Bizmol into their mouth and throwing in the trash, knowing there is a new bottle already in their desk for tomorrow...

No since the hood scoop doesn't supply air to the engine bay.

If they were really trying to fool people into thinking this is a Ford prototype, they should pretend to break down every few miles. Or better yet, have it burn to the ground along side the road as the Ford SD did a few years back.
